Kissy and Her Belly Rubs

I don’t know what it is about dog belly rubs.  Most of our Chi’s love to have their bellies rubbed.  It must really feel good.  I know I enjoy having one or two of my Chihuahuas lay upside down on my lap and let me rub and pet their bellies.  I think one of our Chi’s, Miss Kissy May, would literally lay on my lap all day long if I would continually rub her belly.  She just loves it!

All four of our dogs sleep in the bed.  When it’s time to get up and go outside in the morning, three of them are raring to go.  One of them – yep, you guessed it – Kissy – does NOT want to get out of bed.  So I don’t insist.  She stays in bed while the rest of the pack runs outside to do their business.  We do keep potty pads on the floor and Kissy uses those regularly.  After I get them all rounded up and back inside, I go back to the bedroom, and there’s Kissy, laying on the bed with her belly in the air.  She’s ready for belly rubs.  I get such a kick out of this – she is so predictable!  She does this every single day.  So I go in and sit on the bed and spend about five or ten minutes rubbing her belly and telling her how much I love her and how silly she is.  She is such a sweet dog!

  1. Our dog, Peluche has a routine similar to Kissy. Every morning she’s on our bed watching us get ready for work, and she knows when it’s time to go downstairs. She’ll stretch her front legs out, spread her toes, then flop over with her back legs up in the air, tail wagging just waiting for her belly rubs. You can see the smile on her face as we gloat over her beauty and silliness. What a great way to start every day.

    • John – I absolutely agree! I love seeing Kissy do her little routine every morning – it brings a smile to my face. She is such a sweet girl. I’ve been a dog lover my whole life and I am so blessed to have my pups in my life. Our dogs sleep in the bed (it’s an adventure!) and when I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do every morning is spend time loving on all my pups. Like you said – what a great way to start the day!
